Email marketing remains one of the most effective ways to market your business in 2020! In fact, 80% of marketers claim email is the absolute best for customer acquisition. So it would make sense to include it in your marketing campaigns, wouldn’t it?

An email marketing campaign is a puzzle with tons of pieces! One of the most important pieces of this puzzle is the email marketing tool.

A couple of weeks ago I did an in-depth review of two email marketing tools, GetResponse and AWeber. It’s no secret that they are both masters at their craft and they do an excellent job at providing an amazing email marketing solution.

However, there is still the question of which one offers a better email marketing service. So I went back to the drawing board and tore down each of these platforms until I came to the perfect conclusion.

Immediately I knew exactly which email software was the better one and trust me I was actually shocked!

In this GetResponse vs Aweber article, we will be looking at what makes one of these email marketing tools better than the next one. By the end of this in-depth comparison, you will know exactly what’s the best email marketing software for your business!

So without further ado, buckle up, and let’s dive straight into the comparison!

GetResponse Vs Aweber

Before we dive straight into each of these platforms and outline everything from the pricing to its best features to the pros and cons of each email software, we must take a deeper look at the history of each tool.

What is GetResponse?

GetResponse is an all in one marketing solution that was designed to be the one-stop-shop for everything that you need to successfully market your business.

GetResponse was founded over 20 years ago in 1998! By 2003 they had their first 6 employees, today they have over 300 employees who are dedicated to producing a one of a kind service!

GetResponse is truly phenomenal, they have over 350,000 customers in 183 countries and the platform is also available in 27 different languages.

GetResponse believes in empowering business owners with the tools that will help their businesses grow exponentially. These tools include :

  • A Robust Email Marketing System (My favorite)
  • Marketing Automation
  • Conversion Funnels
  • Landing Pages and much much more!!

All in all, GetResponse has done an amazing job in building a solid email marketing and online campaign management platform and it seems as if every day they’re improving.

Here’s what Simon Grabowski, CEO of GetResponse has to say about the platform:

“We are a multinational team of tech geeks. Among us, you’ll find experts in various fields who stay creative and open to new knowledge and experiences. That’s why we have been successful in conquering markets all over the world for more than twenty years.”

What is Aweber

AWeber

Aweber is an email marketing automation tool designed for small businesses. Essentially Aweber focuses on developing a strong email marketing campaign for your business so you can focus on the areas of your business that you actually like to do.

Interestingly enough, Aweber was founded in the same year as GetResponse, in 1998. Since then they have helped over one MILLION (yes I said million) small businesses grow their customer base through the tools and knowledge that they offer.

One cool thing about  Aweber is that they’re 100% remote so that means they work from the comfort of their homes while still making a significant impact on the entire industry.

AWeber is hands down one of the best email marketing tools I have ever reviewed and they have done an amazing job at mastering email marketing. We will be taking a brief look at some of these features later down in this article.

Aweber has a simple mission and it’s to “deliver powerfully-simple email marketing for small businesses that does 90% of the work for you.”

GetResponse Pricing vs. Aweber Pricing: Which one is Cheaper?

Pricing plays a HUGE role when it comes down to choosing the right email marketing tool. In fact, the price could be the major determining factor on whether or not you decide to take that leap.

So let’s take a look at the pricing of both of these email marketing tools and see which one offers a better price for the features that it offers.

GetResponse Pricing

GetResponse offers 4 different pricing plans, the Basic plan, the Plus plan, the Professional plan, and the Enterprise plan.

The pricing is determined by the number of subscribers that you have. The pricing below is based on having up to 1000 subscribers,

The Basic plan starts at $15 per month.

The Plus plan starts at $49 per month.

The Professional plan starts at $99 per month.

The Enterprise plan is only for businesses that have over 100,000 subscribers. In order to get an accurate quote on these prices you have to contact GetResponse support and they would tailor a price for you that would best suit your needs.

If you pay on an annual basis you will save 18% on all plans and if you pay for 2 years upfront you will save 30% on all plans.

pricing: save 18% with an annual plan

They also have a 30-day free trial! This gives you adequate time to test if this is the perfect email marketing tool for your business.

If you’re a non-profit organization then you would be given access to a 50% discount once you qualify for the GetResponse for Nonprofits Program.

These plans differ according to certain features like including an automation builder, access to the webinar features, sales funnels, CRM features, and other dope features!

Aweber Pricing

Aweber has 5 different plans, unlike GetResponse they don’t have any names but they are based on the size of your subscriber list. Here is a list of the plans:

Up to 500 subscribers cost $19 per month.

501 – 2500 subscribers cost $29 per month.

2501 – 5000 subscribers cost $49 per month.

5001 – 10000 subscribers cost $69 per month.

10001 – 25000 subscribers cost $149 per month.

If you have more than 25,000 subscribers you can contact Aweber and they would tailor a price that best suits your needs.

If you decide to pay quarterly you will save 14%.

There are no differences between each plan, you get every feature regardless of if you have 100 subscribers or 8000! You are also given access to a free 30-day trial which gives you access to all the features!

Who has the best price?

I know the burning question is which email marketing tool has the overall better price?

Let’s say that you have 400 subscribers then the Basic plan by Getresponse or the 0 – 500 subscriber plan by Aweber would be perfect for you.

However, GetResponse’s price is $4 cheaper than Aweber regardless of if you pay for one month or for one year upfront.

GetResponse also offers a HUGE discount (30%) if you decide to pay for 2 years upfront which is something that AWeber doesn’t offer.

That being said, it’s clear that GetResponse is the winner when it comes to price. You must also take into consideration the wide range of features that come with GetResponse that make it a great bang for the buck.

Despite the price being a huge determining factor, there are still a couple more things that you should consider before making a decision.

Let’s take a look at some of the other factors that no doubt will influence your decision on which email marketing tool is better than the next one.

What are GetResponse and Aweber’s best features?

Let’s take a look at the features that make each of these email marketing tools stand out and how they compare to each other.

We will be taking a look at :

  • How easy each email marketing tool is to use
  • The Reporting and Analytics
  • Landing Page Creation
  • Integrations

Are GetResponse and Aweber easy to use?

This is a major factor when it comes to choosing any software if it isn’t easy to use what’s the point of even using it?

Let’s take a look at how easy GetResponse and AWeber are to navigate and utilize.

I have seen a few reviews that have said that setting up Aweber is not as easy as GetResponse given that the sign-up process for GetResponse can be done in a couple of minutes but the same can’t be said about AWeber.

However, the entire interface of Aweber looks extremely modern and is fairly simple to navigate. In fact they have an amazing reputation for building a platform that is super simple for uses. If you have used any email marketing tool before I am confident that you will find your way around the platform easily.

List statistics
Aweber dashboard

On the other hand, I have seen a couple complain about the terminology used with GetResponse but that doesn’t change the fact that once you spend a few days playing with the software you will begin to get the hang of it.

Thankfully, GetResponse has a 30-day free trial for you to take advantage of!

That being said, there is a huge knowledge base and help center that is there to help you every step of the way if you ever get lost in the process.

Templates

Templates are the backbone of any email marketing campaign, they literally determine if your prospects will follow through with the Call-To-Action or simply forget about your email altogether.

Aweber and GetResponse both have a HUGE selection of templates to choose from, with Aweber having over 500 and GetResponse with over 700!

That means the chances of you having the same template as one of your competitors is very slim considering the fact that you are given full creative direction to customize your email templates.

I have to be completely honest with you guys, there was no obvious winner when it comes to the templates, this all depends on your personal preference and what your campaign goals are.

Both GetRespone and Aweber provide templates that are very modern and mind-blowing but still get the job done in the most effective and efficient way possible.

The best part is that you can check out the templates on the GetResponse free trial and determine which ones suit your brand voice better.

Reporting & Analytics

This is probably the most IMPORTANT part of choosing any software product. The reporting and analytics feature lets you know the next decision that you need to make in order to improve your email campaigns.

The main job of this feature is to show you what’s working and what isn’t working so you can adjust your marketing strategy to best suit your needs.

GetResponse and Aweber both do an amazing job at bringing you quality reports! They provide enough graphs and tables that will help you optimize your emails.

However, after fully diving into each platform I must say that Aweber provides more data than GetResponse so if you know you live and breathe data like me then Aweber may be the better bang for your buck.

Dashboard and Account Reports filters
Aweber Report Dashboard

On the other hand, if you are content with having the basic features such as email open rates, bounce rates, and unsubscribe rates then there’s not a shadow of a doubt that GetResponse is the better approach to take.

GetResponse provides everything you need to optimize your campaign, nothing more, nothing less. My favorite part about the GetResponse analytics is the ability to conduct smart reporting

which sends you automated emails about your campaign progress when you see the best fit.

Fun Fact: Only 16.5% of marketers use advanced email analytics to measure the ROI of each piece of content sent through email.

Landing pages

If you want to build highly converting landing pages then Aweber would have to take a backseat as this is an option that only GetResponse mastered.

GetResponse provides an intuitive interface that gives you all the tools that you need in order to build a landing page that gets the job done!

Thanks to the wide range of interactive and modern templates paired with an easy to use built-in image editor you can create eye-catching landing pages in no time.

Moreover, the intuitive drag-and-drop editor is the cherry on top that brings together the entire package. This means that you need NO CODING EXPERIENCE in order to produce a phenomenal landing page.

GetResponse Landing Page

GetResponse also allows you to A/B split test between 10 different versions of your landing page which gives you a data-driven decision on which landing page is going to perform the best.

Needless to say, they are also really mobile-friendly so your landing page will look great on any device.

On the other hand, Aweber also offers a landing page builder but it is not as advanced as the one offered by GetResponse due to the fact that it’s missing various features like A/B split testing and it lacks when it comes to the templates.

Which tool is better for landing page creation?

I would have to say that GetResponse wins in that regard as it gives you access to features and tools that make creating a landing page a breeze. Also in my opinion I believe that GetResponse placed a lot more effort in developing the landing pages.

Fun Fact: The average conversion rate of a landing page is 5.8%!

Signup Forms

Did you know that 74% of companies use web forms for lead generation, with 49.7% stating their online forms are their highest converting lead generation tool?

That being said if you aren’t taking full advantage of sign-up forms then you risk the chance of your competitors beating you at your own game!

Related: The Best Sign-Up Form Builder in 2020!!

Let’s take a look at how well GetResponse and AWeber utilize sign-up forms.

GetResponse Signup Forms: Are they any good?

Let’s start with GetResponse, this email marketing tool has a super cool feature called the New GetResponse Forms that is dedicated solely to the professional execution of sign-up forms.

GetResponse has over 500 templates to choose from, each coming with their own personal thank you page! They also have 9 different template categories to choose from, these include:

  • Newsletter Sign-ups
  • Order Forms
  • Free Download
  • Free Course Sign-up
  • Feedback Forms
  • Event Sign-up
  • Seasonal Forms
  • Blank Forms

You can also A/B Split tests your sign up forms in order to find a winning form as quickly as possible.

Aweber Sign-up Forms: Are they any good?

When it comes to Sign-up Forms, Aweber could definitely do some work! The selection of templates is not as large as their competitor and some of the templates don’t look as modern but hey, this is just my opinion, you might LOVE the templates Aweber has to offer.

Who has better sign-up forms?

If sign-up forms are a critical part of your marketing campaigns then I would suggest GetResponse immediately as they provide more functionality and tools that will help you create AWESOME forms.

However, if you just want to create a basic sign-up form then Aweber would be a good bet.

Segmentation

Segmentation is where the magic begins and the conversions start rolling in. This is definitely a deal-breaker for me!

Now both AWeber and GetResponse give you the ability to segment your data which allows you to create better and more personalized email marketing campaigns that will no doubt boost your conversion rates!

GetResponse allows you to segment based on almost anything, for example, those who opened your email, what country they’re from, their job titles, etc.

Newsletter
GetResponse Segmentation

AWeber also provides advanced segmentation with the end goal in mind of making it easier for you to build highly targeted email campaigns.

However, GetResponse wins when it comes to this segmentation, this is due to the fact that with GetResponse you can create multiple-segmented groups and send out personalized emails to each of them while AWeber only allows you to send email newsletters to one segment at a time.

That being said, if you are a strong believer in segmentation and it’s crucial to the success of your business then I would suggest that you go with GetResponse, no questions asked.

Integrations

When looking for an email marketing tool I would highly suggest that you choose one that has a wide range of 3rd party integrations.

That way you would be given the opportunity to have a seamless connection with all the apps and tools involved in the customer life-cycle.

Both GetResponse and AWeber have over 120 integrations.

Let’s take a look at some of the integrations provided by GetResponse and Aweber and determine which one has the better system for integrations.

Personally, a major factor that comes into play when I’m looking for an email marketing tool is a solid that’s perfect since both of the email marketing tools offer integration with Google Analytics.

Moreover, if you’re in the e-commerce space or interested in selling your products online then both of these tools will work perfectly for you since they integrate seamlessly with PayPal, Google Checkout, Amazon Payments, 2Checkout, and 1ShoppingCart.

However, you must note that if you want to integrate with particular website builders you must go with AWeber since they integrate with almost every website builder including Wix and Weebly.

Aweber also integrates with my favorite landing page builders including Unbounce, Instapages, and Leadpages. Unfortunately, GetResponse does not offer integrations with these landing page builders.

They both have such a wide range of apps that you can take advantage to the point where if you don’t see one of your favorite apps listed on one platform I can guarantee that it would be on the next platform.

That being said I would say that Aweber is the winner when it comes to integrations as they offer a huge selection that is not at all limited.

GetResponse vs. Aweber: Customer Support

This is a HUGE factor for me when it comes to choosing an email marketing provider, if the platform doesn’t provide amazing customer support I always tend to look the other way.

Did you know that 7 out of 10 U.S. consumers say they’ve spent more money to do business with a company that delivers great service? (American Express 2017 Customer Service Barometer)

That statistic goes to show how important customer service really is to the longevity of any business and GetResponse and Aweber know this!

In fact, both GetResponse and Aweber have Stevie awards for their amazing customer support.

Let’s take a look at the customer support each of the email marketing tools offers and determines which one has better overall customer support.

GetResponse customer support

Do you want to hear the good news or the bad news first?

We’ll start with the bad news.

GetResponse, unfortunately, does not offer phone support anymore. This can be a disappointment if you have an urgent query that you need to answer as soon as possible.

GetResponse Customer Support Options

The good news is that they have a live chat! When I first saw the live chat a huge smile crept up on my face. Anyone that has read any of my other reviews knows that I take live chats very seriously!

I have read amazing reviews about this live chat and how helpful it has been to GetResponses’ customers. If you prefer email, GetResponse also provides around the clock email support.

GetResponse Livechat

If the live chat and email support aren’t enough you can always check out the variety of resources that GetResponse has to offer like the Help Center, API docs, and blogs.

Here’s an interesting review I found by Michael Simpson Jr, The Residual Entrepreneur on how he feels about the support at GetResponse:

“It was a very close race, I will say, between GetResponse and AWeber.

But in the end, I gave the edge to GetResponse. What really won me over is their Customer support. You guys are pleased to talk to us.”

Aweber customer support

AWeber’s customer support is also pretty phenomenal. In fact, they have won TONS of awards for their customer service.

Now, unlike GetResponse they offer phone support. This is great especially if you want a question solved asap and you prefer that human interaction.

AWeber Customer Support Options

They also offer a 24/7 live chat that was designed to help you with any problems that you may encounter on your journey. You will also be given access to 24/7 email support!

AWeber Livechat

If that is not enough for you or you have a simple problem and don’t want to go through the hassle of talking to the live chat or email support then you should definitely check-out the extensive knowledge base.

With hundreds of articles, I am sure that you will be able to get your questions and concerns addressed in the best way possible.

They also offer webinars and video guides that were designed to help you in your journey.

Who has better customer support?

Whew, now this is a CLOSE CALL!

However, I would say that Aweber is a winner when it comes to customer support. Despite the fact that GetResponse also offers mind-blowing customer support the fact that it doesn’t have phone support was a deal-breaker for me.

One way that GetResponse beats Aweber in customer support is the fact that they offer email support in 8 different languages.

What I like and hate about GetResponse and Aweber

Like every other email marketing tool out there, GetResponse and Aweber have their fair share of pros and cons.

Let’s take a look at what I like about GetResponse and AWeber and what I don’t like about both of these email marketing tools.

What I like about GetResponse

  • You don’t need to enter your credit card information in order to sign-up for the free trial.
  • GetResponse is cheaper in the long-run compared to AWeber
  • Marketing Automation is amazing!
  • The discounts are actually pretty great! (30% off if you purchase the 2-year plan and 18% off if you purchase the annual plan)
  • I personally find the “Conversion Funnel” feature really great especially for eCommerce business owners
  • The reporting and analytics features are in-depth and fairly comprehensive
  • The “Perfect Timing” feature is a great addition that gives you the opportunity to improve your click-through rates.
  • It has a more advanced and easy to set up landing page builder
  • They have significantly improved the form builder

What I don’t like about GetResponse

  • There is no phone support

What I like about Aweber

  • They excel at customer support especially having exceptional phone support.
  • Has a better selection of email templates to choose from
  • It’s sure easy to use and it’s beginner-friendly
  • The landing page builder is fairly comprehensive and intuitive

What I don’t like about Aweber

  • The platform can get expensive depending on the number of subscribers you have
  • You have to enter your credit card information in order to sign up for the free trial
  • The signup forms could do with some work

The Verdict: Which one is better?

THE WINNER IS…..

GetResponse!

Now I may be a bit biased towards GetResponse as I love everything about the platform but all the facts that I laid out earlier point exactly why GetResponse is the best tool for your email marketing campaigns.

Now Aweber does have a wide range of tools that will help you build solid email marketing campaigns but GetResponse took the win.

Why is GetResponse better? Well, aside from the fact that it’s cheaper it’s also an all-in-one marketing solution so that means you get more than just email marketing when you take advantage of GetResponse

However, I must add that if you need phone support then GetResponse is not the right option for you. The better option would be Aweber as they have a solid support team that is there to answer the phone when you call with any question that may be bothering you.
